Machine-agnostic process data flow
ODB++Process is a way to represent the entire engineering process data of assembly and inspection machine program datasets, independently of machine vendor and their proprietary formats. This allows integration-free upgrades between Process Preparation and the machine. Consistent implementation of ODB++Process allows for freedom for process change on either side of the format – either by Process Preparation or the machine software.
Product format definition that withstands changes
ODB++Process defines the product format to be sent from Process Preparation to the factory floor equipment programming systems. The product data is as equipment-independent as possible. Machine vendors can make changes on their machines or software, and the ODB++Process structure will still be valid as long as they are consistent with the format and have not introduced new data points.
All the data in a single format, with ongoing support
Besides containing a list of part numbers and their package and supply form information, ODB++Process can also present layer information such as the silk screen information using graphical primitives, for example, lines, circles, or contours. The data provided in the format allows vendors to validate their programs. The format is ever evolving, and support is provided to add specific data according to need.
Full control of optimization capabilities
ODB++Process line setup defines the distribution of placements between equipment and provides part supply information. This is a product model representation that contains full detailed information about how to execute the processing in the equipment. Further processing or optimization will be then done on the equipment’s manufacturer software. This allows the machine vendors to maintain full control of the optimization capabilities of their systems.
Adopt ODB++Process
ODB++Process file generation is a standard feature of the Valor® Process Preparation process engineering tool from Siemens. Valor Process Preparation serves as a process engineering “digital twin” that automatically transforms board designs into line-optimized machine programs. In addition, Valor® Process Preparation can automatically generate an ODB++Process file. The file is then exported and transmitted to ODB++Process-compliant systems that perform machine-dedicated optimizations, and then upload the resulting program data to the machine. Machine vendors that support ODB++Process benefit from a simplified method of obtaining complete, detailed, and accurate information on the product that is to be produced – in a format that is ready for their optimization. Once ODB++Process support is achieved, integration efforts are eliminated, and programming times are drastically reduced.
